Origami Crane Box After a long, long time, I tried out another of Tomoko Fuse’s designs. This is one of her square boxes from her fabulous book, ‘Fabulous Origami Boxes‘. All the boxes are made up of multiple modules, this one requires 4 for the lid and another 4 for the base.

I used regular wrapper paper, patterned on one side and plain on the other, but the model looks best with double sided paper or preferrably, washi or chiyogami which has patterns on one side and the corresponding solid colour on the other.

The lid is a combination of 2 modules -  a plain one and the crane one (hey, that rhymes!! :) And the lid turns out to be quite sturdy too. There are of course, quite a few variations for the lid – cranes, lilies, hearts, bunnies, irises, butterflies and quite a few more. I attempted the simplest of the lot and it was quite a pleasure to complete another of Fuse’s amazing boxes :)

The base was one whose height can be varied. I like boxes that have bases that are taller than the lid, so this one was perfect. The folds form a pinwheel on the inside of the box base.
